Discipleship

Discipleship

In line with the Scriptures and church history, the process of discipleship at Byron Baptist has many avenues. Following Jesus is always done in community, but those communities can look different. At Byron Baptist, this may look like one-on-one relationships, small group commitments, Sunday school classes, hospitality, and other chances to invest in one another.

We use a working definition of discipleship as: doing intentional, spiritual good to one another. We do not have programmatic ways to get people into discipleship relationships, but we roundly encourage them. Our pastors are always ready to assist those who need help finding the right relationships for growth (email us if you are ready for this help).

Discipleship is not an option in the life of the Christian (Matthew 28:18-20). At Byron Baptist, we love not only taking this Good News wherever we go, but we love the increasing Christ-likeness that happens in us as we disciple one another.

Children’s Sunday Morning and Wednesday Activities

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.” Psalm 127:3a

Welcome to BBC Kids!  Here at Byron Baptist, we believe the most important thing our children need is to know God. We as a church want to come alongside our children and their families on that journey.

On Sundays at 9:15, we have Sunday School classes available for ages birth-5th grade.

During our 10:30 service on Sunday mornings, Nursery is available for ages birth-3. Children’s Church is available during the Sermon time for kids ages 4-1st grade.  This is a great time full of worship songs, a Bible Story, an emphasis on Missions, and activities!

On Wednesday evenings at 6:30, there are a variety of activities for our children! Here is a breakdown:

1st Wednesdays: Trail Life (boys ages 5-17 and their fathers), Discipleship and Desserts (Elementary-High School girls and their mothers)

2nd Wednesdays: All girls and their mothers are invited to our Titus 2 Women’s Ministry event.

3rd Wednesdays: Trail Life (boys ages 5-17 and their fathers), Discipleship and Desserts (Elementary-High School girls and their mothers)

4th Wednesdays: 4th Wednesday Youth Night (Middle and High School boys and girls), Girls’ Club (Elementary girls)

In an effort to provide a safe environment for your children, we use a system for check-in and check-out. We also require all Children’s volunteers to undergo background checks and Ministry Safe training. We employ a 2-Adult Rule for our Children’s classroom in order to maintain high safety standards for children and volunteers alike.

Student and Family Discipleship

Our Student Ministry consists of students from 6th-12th grade. We meet in our gymnasium  at 9:15 on Sunday morning for Sunday School! My goal is to challenge students with truths from God’s Word and give them tools for growing and defending their faith. Colossians 2:7 says that we are to be “rooted and built up in Him.” It is my heart’s desire that our students will know God’s truth and will be trained to not depart from it when they are older as Proverbs 22:6 says. I also know in this chaotic world which is full of distractions and mixed messaging that it is easy for students to lose sight of the message from God’s Word. Ephesians 6:4 tells us that fathers are to bring up children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” That is why I invite parents to learn and grow along with the students, and I strive to partner with parents in training up their children. Parents are given resources to extend the discussion at home and be active in discipling their students.

We also have new discipleship opportunities on Wednesday evenings!
